The Taylor Mixed Hockey cup - match report
SUNDAY 11th SEPTEMBER 2016
FINAL SCORE: Old Ratcliffians 5, Ratcliffe College Students 3
Match report by James Taylor (04)
Bright sunshine and a bright blue (brand new) pitch greeted a very young Old Ratcliffians side but with the added experience and return to the hockey pitch of some Old Rats who hadn’t picked a stick up for between 4 and 15 years!
The brightness continued as the game got underway and the Old Rats made the most of their dominance in the early stages but after a couple of glaring misses Oli Wright opened the scoring with a deceptively under hit reverse stick shot before Jack Watson doubled the lead. Liv Back and Harry Antill drove the school forward and by half time the school had levelled score. After half time the Old Rats tried to keep the ball moving a lot more and keep the younger school kids chasing the ball knowing that they would eventually tire. The school came out from half time with lots of energy and took the lead before Jack Watson got the Old Rats back into the game before captain James Taylor continued his run of scoring in all the Old Rats matches he’s played in with 2 goals to put a fine gloss on the score line and bring the trophy home for the first time in a couple of years.
A big thank you to all those who came back to play and particular mention to Hayley Marvin, Gemma Southwell (nee Taylor) and Alex Slack (nee Gamble) for playing hockey after a break from the game.
