On Sunday the 2nd July the Old Boys returned for the annual Grand Match, taking on the school in fine weather. The Old Boys were looking to regain the trophy after a chastening defeat last year and brought quite possibly the most youthful Old Boys side ever fielded.

The school quickly dismissed big guns Sam Nightingale and Ben Pole cheaply, meaning they were reliant on ‘old’ Old Boy Luke Welch, positively middle-aged at 26 years, to steady the ship with 58. Although chasing a modest total the school stuttered, eventually scrambling to victory with one wicket to spare, therefore retaining the cup, despite good bowling from Fred Notman and Will Gent.
